For many people who identify as empaths, caring for others can become so automatic that their own emotional needs gradually disappear into the background.
They become the listener, the comforter, the problem-solver—the person everyone turns to.
And slowly, almost invisibly, a pattern develops.
Someone else needs you → you give → you ignore your own needs → you become depleted → you recover just enough to give again.
The problem is not empathy itself. The problem is when caring for others consistently comes at the expense of caring for yourself.
